The word Biology is formed by combining the Greek words "bio" meaning "life" and "logos" meaning "study of".

Biology is the branch of natural science that involves the study of life and living organisms. 

It studies the origin, evolution, growth, distribution, taxonomy,  structure, and function of living organisms. 

Biology is a very wide field of study consisting of several branches. 

Some of the major branches include:

Microbiology: a study of microscopic organisms, such as viruses, bacteria, and protozoans.

Mycology: the study of fungi. 

Botany: focuses on the study of plants. 

Zoology: a study of animals. 

Genetics: a study of heredity and genes. 

Biochemistry: the study of the chemical reactions required for life. 

Ecology: deals with the study of the relationship and interactions of living organisms and their environment. 

Overall, biologist seeks to understand life, activities of life, relationships amongst living organisms, and utilize this knowledge to solve practical problems.
